Ground (Mobile Soils, 2023)
Installation and Performance by Siavash Namehshiri and Tara Lasrado
“Ground”, the second chapter and dinner of the Mobile Soils , explores the dynamics of “giving and taking”, “production and consumption”, “human beings and machines”, “linear and circular”, addressing food and agricultural practices and through scientific and socio-political questions. How to turn the relations of a greenhouse into a social, educational and cultural space for interpersonal relations, embodied gestures and non-production? How does soil nurture or feed us – and what do these processes look like?
For this work, Siavash used small speakers placed underneath various drums. The resonance of these drums triggers the movement of specific types of food on the drums, generating sound through the vibrations. The resonant sound is programmed using four Serge modules: Variable Q Filter, DSG, USG, and NTO.
The installation took place within a performance setup. While the generative patch on the Serge modules was activated and Siavash controlled certain parameters, Tara Lasrado was reading a text about mobile soils and decolonizing the soil from the published book by Teti Press.
