Behind The Gates ( 2ch, 3:15_ 2020 )
Behind the Gates is a musical representation of the pandemic’s isolation, recorded in Zurich during the first lockdown. It uses contact microphones on the closed window at Siavash’s sleeping room in Zurich to capture various interactions , reflecting a world in solitude and exploring themes of resilience and longing in the subtleties of sound.
Behind the Gates draws inspiration from an exercise by Salome Vogelin and emerged during a period when Siavash was engrossed in contemplating power dynamics in sonic reality. This contemplation evolved into a tangible practice. The piece was developed within the context of perception practices, heavily influenced by the viewpoint of a immigrant with a non-Christian history.
The work approaches its subject matter by viewing the environment and humans as organic entities, embracing them as part of nature rather than entities separate from it . It confronts us with an external world glimpsed through a window, guiding us through architectural inclinations and reflecting the reproduction of systemic, non-consensual sounds.
Siavash Used mainly FFTP technics to extract moments and tranforms sounds included in the piece.
